Advisory Board

The National Student Housing Council is proud to have dedicated and experienced industry leaders and professionals working with us to help chart our path for the future.   

NSHC's Board of Advisors is comprised of invited members who:
  • are professionals in the field of student housing;
  • have academic and/or corporate housing management and development experience;
  • share a national focus and view on the quality of these purpose-built facilities; and
  • offer advice and counsel on programs of significance to members of the student housing industry.

John Buttarazzi, Advisory Board President

John Buttarazzi is a founder and principal of Varsity Capital Advisors, LLC, which invests in and develops real estate assets located in markets where higher education is the primary economic driver. He is a real estate development professional with more than 20 years of experience and has managed more than $2 billion in real estate and economic development projects.

Prior to Varsity, Mr. Buttarazzi held senior executive positions with Cohn Real Estate, LLC and Grubb & Ellis Company. He also served as Senior Vice President of the Empire State Development Corporation, New York State’s economic development arm.

John received his Bachelor of Science from Washington & Lee University and his Master of Science from the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. He has been a David Rockefeller Fellow and has chaired the Ol’ Liberty Golf Classic, which raises funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.


Alex Hodara, Advisory Board Member

We are proud to announce that Boston University student Alex Hodara, the owner and founder of Hodara Real Estate Group (HREG), has recently accepted an invitation to join our Advisory Board. Hodara Real Estate Group (HREG) is the first student owned and operated real estate brokerage agency in the U.S., and has grown to include a team of twenty student agents, who represent about 110 landlords in the greater Boston area. Along with HREG, Hodara has also opened Hodara Property Management and Hodara Real Estate Academy. Although HREG was only first launched in January 2009, it has already been featured on CNBC, Fox Business, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, and many other notable news sources.
